This weekend went on my first overnight trip without the kids.  If you know me then you know it was a big milestone.  In fact, many of the women I went with expected me to either back out at the last minute or take off under the cover of night.  I managed to make it until morning and had a great time.

My friend’s husband set up the whole weekend… Limobus tour of the 4 wineries, a private tour and tasting at my friend’s favorite winery (King Family), and a hotel stay.  He had also made reservations at a nice restaurant, but after drinking wine all day we thought it would be better to walk to the closest restaurant rather than drive.

He made us all T-shirts too, but much to his dismay we did not wear them.  I thought I would give him some love and share it with you guys though.

Well, while I toured the wineries, I found out that the wonderful Sharon from Hyperactive Inefficency had tagged me in a Blogger game of Tag.

As she quoted…”To be tagged is a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers a little better (and to mess with them a little).”  I love messing with people and well I am always for getting to know people better.  Isn’t that why we all blog… To share our story and to connect to other who also want to share a bit about themselves though blogging.

So without further ado… Here are the rules:

1. Post the rules.
2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post
3. Create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
3. Tag eleven people and link to them on your post.
4. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

So let’s get to answering those questions from Sharon… Continue reading →

Thank Goodwill It’s Friday: Consignment is not my thing.

So, I was supposed to drop off my stuff for the consignment sale this morning, but then I realized that all of the clothes had to be hung.  I don’t know why I thought they would provide hangers…. I am just stupid when it comes to this stuff apparently.  I was without hangers and the safety pins needed to attach the clothes to the hangers.  So, I had the option of running out to buy cheap hangers and safety pins or just cutting my losses.  I went for cutting my losses, because I really did not know what I was doing.  I am thinking I do not have the patience for doing all the little things that you have to do to sell at these sales.  I also decided I over-think about stupid little things too much.  I spent at least 1 hour at the store trying to figure out how I was going to fasten on the price tag… It really should not be this hard.

Another problem I have is that I really am not sure what is the going rate for used kid’s clothes.  I thought I did a good job pricing them, but when I printed out the estimate of settlement… I was amazed at how little I was going to get.  All that pressing and hangering and pricing… I do just as well when I sell to the consignment stores like Once Upon a Child (which is a gently used kid stuff store in town).  I am not sure if I just did not price the items well (which I am guessing is the case), or if the percentage worked out to be the same.  If the percentage is the same then I should just do what I have done in the past and dropped it off and gone to get a coffee and then pick up my check.  I think I need more guidance before I try this consigning thing out in the future.  I am an consignment sale dunce.

So, I managed to not get rid of anything today.  I guess that I am doing so well with this decluttering thing, am I?

Even though I did not get rid of anything today… I did clean out my car.  I threw away quite a bit of junk there.  I also decided that I really do need to thin all my kitchen junk.  There are devices and other dish ware that has never been used and it is all crammed into my cupboards.  It sounds like a great project for next Friday… because it is time to get ready for The Hunger Games now.

Crafting with a side of ADHD

My Mother in Law (MIL) stayed with us for 4 days.  It was a tremendous help.  She sold girl scout cookies, hung out with my son so he would not have to go to the girl scout meeting, and watched both kids as I ran around doing my cookie mom duties.  Another one of the many things I love about my MIL is that she is a whiz with crafts.  She helped me learn how to use my new sewing machine and she taught me how to make a really cool scarf. This morning I woke up and looked around the house.  Although Monday morning my house looked looked like a frat house (only it looked like the frat boys had a huge crafting party).

Actually, if I wasn’t already diagnosed with ADHD, then it could have been my evidence that I had it.

So what did we have for breakfast?

We had fabric obviously.   Continue reading →

Do you like Scrapbooking [Paul Revere Edition]?

All the kids in the 2nd grade are doing a “Famous American” project for the next few weeks.  They got to select a person from a list of famous Americans, some choices included George Washington, Helen Keller, and Ben Frankiln.  My daughter chose Paul Revere.  I was pretty happy she chose someone a little less famous, although I really wanted her to pick Susan B. Anthony.  After selecting the person, they got to pick how they wanted to present the information they have learned from another list.  On this list there were fun things like dressing up like the person, making a powerpoint, making a scrapbook, and other things I can’t remember.  I really wanted her to pick “dress up like the person”, because I thought that would be the easiest.  She really did not want to dress up like Paul Revere which was another reason why she should have picked Susan B. Anthony…if you ask me (which she did not).   She wanted to do a scrapbook.

Scrapbooking or “scrapping”, for those who are actually good at it (which is not me), lured me in once when I attended a Creative Memories party a friend of mine had.  I had a great time.  I did not have kids yet, so I made an awesome page with pictures of my dogs.  I bought a ton of stuff, paper, the scrapbook, photo corners and other stuff that I thought I needed.  The stuff sat in the bag through the birth of my daughter and then my son.  After moving the stuff (still in the creative memories bag) two times, I finally gave all of the stuff away.

A little while back, I got invited to do some more scrapbooking and for a fleeting second I debated getting back into the craft (if you call one page and a whole bunch of unused stuff doing it in the first place).  My husband forbid it.   I know what you are thinking.  A husband should never forbid his wife to do something, but my husband knows me well and he knows that I would have to buy a ton of stuff that I would perceive I need (because how could I make a great scrapbook page with out the die cutter) and then never do anything with the stuff.  He was preventing unnesassary clutter and possible wasting of more money.  Believe me, he has learned that he has to take these types of stances or we would never have money in our bank account.

So you have to imagine our joy when she told us that this what she wanted to do… Continue reading →

I thought I would save some money and make the kids Valentines this year.   I had seen some really cute designs on Pinterest and thought… I can do that.

Originally, I thought I would something really cute like this…

I really liked the “da bomb” idea.  In fact, I went out and bought black tissue paper and pipe cleaners.  I was going to do this concept with Blow pops.  Of course, The Girl did not want to do this for her valentine’s.  She did not think it was “very valentine-like.” Continue reading →

Why I Love to Watch a Pageant

One of my guilty pleasures is watching pageants.  Every year, I look forward to the different pageants and the little game I play with whoever I am watching the pageant with (meaning my husband).    The game is kind of like Fantasy Football.  After the introductions, you have to pick 10 girls who you think can win.  Then we watch to see which one of us chose the winner or which one of our girls went the furthest.  I would like to add that I am currently undefeated… maybe I need more competition.

It sounds like I take this whole pageant thing seriously, but really what it comes down to is that we are easily amused and my husband really doesn’t mind watching a show that is filled with pretty girls.  So without further ado… Our thoughts on tonight’s competition. Continue reading →

My Problem with Resolutions

Although I found this image on FB, here is a link to an image source.

It is New Year’s Eve and I suppose I should be thinking about what resolutions I will try to do this year.  I really hate doing resolutions.  In the past, I have not been creative with my resolution making. In fact, the resolutions I have made since college are on this top ten resolutions article.   Talk about not being unique.

On top of being completely ordinary and non-creative with resolution making, I also never followed through with any of them.  I would always pretend to care about them and make a solid effort for maybe the first few weeks in January, but by February I had either forgotten the resolution or I got distracted with some new project or life event.  Resolutions or really even goals were really not a strong suit for me (especially when unmedicated) in the past.  Goal setting requires some planning and organization and honestly those are the big reasons I still see a shrink every other month.  He gives me homework to do like make a plan for this or that…which I usually forget to do.  The only goals I even barely attained were the ones where my job or my life depended on making the goal.   You see if there is no one overseeing my completion of a goal, then I really don’t care if I complete it.  My Psychiatrist really is not much into overseeing the homework he gives… usually it is just a question I answer with a “well, I tried but…” response and we move on.

I am not intrinsically rewarded by reaching a goal or completing a resolution.  I am really apathetic to whether I do it or not.  In the past, I always resolved to lose weight.  Did I fret when instead of losing weight I ended up gaining weight… not really.  Two years ago,  I really thought I was going to make a good effort.  I created a blog and tried to find gym partners and although I started off strong, I soon lost interest in the gym or keeping up with blogging.  Last year I actually would have attained my goal to lose weight if it had been a resolution.  Funny, how that works.

So this year, I wonder if I should even try to make a resolution.  If I did, what should I do?  Should I go with the good ole’ standby resolutions or should I try to be more original?

I could make a resolution to do a marathon this year, but I know I would never actually put effort into it.  I could care less about running or being able to say I ran a marathon.

I could make a resolution that I learn some new skill, but I honestly don’t have a clue what skill I want to learn.  Hmm.

I could make a resolution to cook more and declutter and organize my house, but I am already trying to do those goals so I feel that is kind of cheating since it is not a real “New Year” resolution.

I think I have come up with a resolution though…

I resolve to try to complete something I want to complete.

Now, that is nice and vague (and not on the top 10 list either).   I like it!

I think 2012 will be a year I keep my resolution.

Yep, starting off 2012 like Success Kid!

May you do as well on your resolutions as I am going to do on my resolution!

Happy New Year!

How am I similar to Bruno Mars and Monkeys?

ADHD, black cat, Bruno Mars, humor, lazy

Today I don’t feel like doing anything.*

Sometimes this happens to me.  Actually, it seems to happen when I have a long list of things to do.  I find the more I have to do… the more I want to do nothing.  Pretty counterproductive.

Oh, Motivation where are you?

WAIT!  I have not taken my ADHD medicine…

That could explain my irrational desire to figure why there were men dressed as monkeys in the video.  Since, I don’t know much about Bruno… It could be because they were in a past video or something like that.  Hmm.

I really should take my medicine.

Just one more random thought…

If you own a black cat and it crosses your path… does it still mean that mean ill-fortune?  Maybe I should just go back to bed if I try to get any cleaning done my cat is bound to cross my path.

* Although, I don’t plan on doing the P90x or the other extracurricular activities that he plans on doing tomorrow.

Lately, I have felt a bit overwhelmed.  That means I get a little asocial.  I boycott e-mail and avoid social media.  I fight the urge to shut down and pretend that time is frozen until I can catch up.  I have been told that it is just another of the long list of special qualities that I can thank ADHD for.  So, let’s take a look at what I pinned…
