Could This Week Get More Pinteresting?

It has been quite a week and it is only Tuesday.  Actually, today I forgot to post.  I really don’t have any excuse except for I felt really scattered.  Tonight was pretty rough as well.  So I am kind of looking forward to Wednesday.

Advertising for this movie is working overtime.  Tonight on The Voice they had all their characters “trying out” for their animated counterparts.  I have seen countless commercials.  If I had made it to The Secret World of Arrietty on time, I would have probably have seen a trailer too.  By the way, The Secret World of Arrietty was a great movie.  At any rate, I fell in love with these cupcakes.  They seem a little out of my league when it comes to cake decorating ability, but I can still admire them. Can’t I? Continue reading →

The Trouble We’re In (or maybe not in)

There was a bit of trouble on the bus the other day.  It involved 2 first graders and a Kindergartener. The parent I talked to said that the school would have called me if my son was involved.  I let out a sigh of relief and then did not think any more about it.

My husband came home around 5:30 and we were working up some Paul Revere scrapbooking.   He looked around for a second and then told me that he tried to call, but the call would not go through.  He asked me if I paid the bill, and I told him that I had not seen the bill, but we realized that the phone had been turned off.  He got used to throwing the bill when we get it, since they always sent him an e-mail.  Unfortunately, we took him off the plan and I never got the e-mail.  He quickly paid the bill and I had my phone back.  So, all is well…. or is it?   Continue reading →

So last week I finally got fed up with the cat litter we use.  Our house was not made for discreet hiding of litter boxes, and so we have litter boxes in the office and in our master bath.  That means that we have to keep the area around them clean and we notice if they smell.

We have been using Scoop Away clay cat litter for multiple cats.

The odor control is fantastic.  The little clay granules tracked by our cats all around the litter box… not so fantastic.  We even bought “clean step” igloo litter boxes to curb the spread of litter.  We will still stand by the litter box, it has helped immensely.

It's like their own special bathroom.

In our bathroom it drives me nuts because even though we have a towel under it and a special mat… the stray granules escape and embed themselves into the grout in our tile floor.   Mopping, steaming, and special cleansers make for a long cleaning experience.

So let me throw down the facts as they are now… Continue reading →

After a long snowless winter we finally got a good snow day. The kids loved frolicking in the snow. They made some snow angels and went sledding on a small hill near our house. It was a great day. You know what is even better than a good snow day? Some of the great stuff I found on Pinterest.

All the kids in the 2nd grade are doing a “Famous American” project for the next few weeks.  They got to select a person from a list of famous Americans, some choices included George Washington, Helen Keller, and Ben Frankiln.  My daughter chose Paul Revere.  I was pretty happy she chose someone a little less famous, although I really wanted her to pick Susan B. Anthony.  After selecting the person, they got to pick how they wanted to present the information they have learned from another list.  On this list there were fun things like dressing up like the person, making a powerpoint, making a scrapbook, and other things I can’t remember.  I really wanted her to pick “dress up like the person”, because I thought that would be the easiest.  She really did not want to dress up like Paul Revere which was another reason why she should have picked Susan B. Anthony…if you ask me (which she did not).   She wanted to do a scrapbook.

Scrapbooking or “scrapping”, for those who are actually good at it (which is not me), lured me in once when I attended a Creative Memories party a friend of mine had.  I had a great time.  I did not have kids yet, so I made an awesome page with pictures of my dogs.  I bought a ton of stuff, paper, the scrapbook, photo corners and other stuff that I thought I needed.  The stuff sat in the bag through the birth of my daughter and then my son.  After moving the stuff (still in the creative memories bag) two times, I finally gave all of the stuff away.

A little while back, I got invited to do some more scrapbooking and for a fleeting second I debated getting back into the craft (if you call one page and a whole bunch of unused stuff doing it in the first place).  My husband forbid it.   I know what you are thinking.  A husband should never forbid his wife to do something, but my husband knows me well and he knows that I would have to buy a ton of stuff that I would perceive I need (because how could I make a great scrapbook page with out the die cutter) and then never do anything with the stuff.  He was preventing unnesassary clutter and possible wasting of more money.  Believe me, he has learned that he has to take these types of stances or we would never have money in our bank account.

So you have to imagine our joy when she told us that this what she wanted to do… Continue reading →

Lately I have been very nostalgic for the 80’s.  It seems like there have been a lot of random things and events that have made me think of that decade… or rather the later part of that decade since I was only 5 when the decade started and honestly I don’t remember much of the fads that were popular from the early 80’s.

Whitney Houston’s Death

Of course, I was sad when I heard about her passing.  I was not too surprised… Athough I had not heard too much about her lately I had hoped that she had stayed clean.  What her passing did bring is lots of news stories boasting pictures of her from the 80’s.  These pictures made me think of the terrible perm I had in 1988 that was somewhere between an afro and a triangle.   Continue reading →

I am such a bad blogger.  I did not post a Valentine’s post and I am late for Pinteresting Tuesday!  I feel like I should share what has been going on.

On Monday, my daughter came down with a fever.  I swore it was strep throat since we get strep a lot.  After a 2-hour doctor’s visit… All the tests came up negative.  She did not have strep or any other bacterial infection.  Unfortunately, when you have a fever you got to stay home from school.   She was beyond distraught.  She was going to miss the Valentine’s festivities and her 100th day activities.  I told her I would make it up to her.  We would have a fabulous Valentine’s day.  So, I sewed all day… That is what she wanted to do.  She wanted me to sew.  People who know me are laughing right now.  I have not sewn anything since 8th grade home economics… where I brought home a C for my amazing sewing ability.  Luckily for me, my daughter saw past the imperfections in the American Girl clothes I made yesterday and only saw the love I put into my charming creations.

All week my daughter begged me to take her to McDonalds.  She had seen a commercial for the Build a Bear toys that were going to be in the Happy Meals starting on Friday and could not wait to get one.

After swimming her heart out, we pulled into a McDonald’s not too far from the University where her lessons take place.  I was hoping for a better dinner experience this week, because last week we did not have much luck.  This week had to be better… I get to have a Shamrock shake and they get the cool new toys.  We all end up happy, right? I thought I would save some money and make the kids Valentines this year.   I had seen some really cute designs on Pinterest and thought… I can do that.

Originally, I thought I would something really cute like this…

I really liked the “da bomb” idea.  In fact, I went out and bought black tissue paper and pipe cleaners.  I was going to do this concept with Blow pops.  Of course, The Girl did not want to do this for her valentine’s.  She did not think it was “very valentine-like.” Continue reading →

What my Husband Thinks Helps Tiger’s Game

My husband and I saw a little blurb about Tiger Woods tonight on ESPN.   It lead to this conversation.

My Husband:  They better watch out.  Tiger is single, he might be back.

Me: So you somehow think that it is the amount of “sex” helps his game?

My Husband:  Yes, if I was a golfer and heard Tiger was in Vegas having massive orgies I’d probably hang it up.  He’d be back to kicking everyone’s a** again.

Me:  Yeah, I bet he does not have a problem finding a girl now since any girl that want to hook up with him will think that “hey, he is a sex addict.  He won’t be able to resist me.”

My husband:  That is what I am thinking.  He is going to start blowing them away!

Me:  You know, I think it is really interesting that it has become a thing when a guy cheats that they proclaim they are a sex addict.  In many ways, aren’t most men are sex addicts.

My Husband: I think it is just being a dude. [thinks for a second] I mean the sex part not the cheating part, just wanted to clarify my perspective on that one.  Sex addict yes, cheating no.  But, theoretically, if I was Tiger and single, I’d dump the whole sex rehab, good living thing and get back to what worked in the past. Balls out Rick James style, “I’m Tiger woods b*tch” give me some sexy time with a bunch of ladies.  But that’s just me.

Glad he cleared up the part that dudes just want sex, but don’t cheat.   I think I am also going to have to start following Tiger’s career and see if my husband’s theory is correct.   If he is right, Tiger should win some tournaments soon!
